Did these sound like your child?

They ask “why?” all day
They repeat the same activity again and again
They focus for a few minutes at a time
They follow two-step instructions
They notice patterns and order
They light up when they’re shown something new

Those aren’t just cute habits. They’re your child’s brain building memory, focus and creativity — and they’re exactly what a Shichida class is designed to grow.

What actually happens in a taster session

Four moments from a Shichida taster session: arriving, flash cards, building blocks and stacking play
  1. 1

Arrive five to ten minutes early

Your child gets to look around before anything begins. Shoes off at the door — bring socks.

  2. 2

    The activities begin

Short, playful and carefully paced: memory games, picture flash cards, music and hands-on play.

  3. 3

    Your child leads

Every activity meets them where they are — from 6 months right up to 6 years.

  4. 4

    You talk it through afterwards

Your instructor tells you what they observed and answers your questions. No obligation to enrol, ever.

Bring: comfortable clothes for both of you, socks, a drink for your child and a snack for afterwards. Everything else is provided.

Start free. Then decide.

Nothing to pay until you’ve sat in a class and seen it for yourself.

A taster session is an abridged version of a full class and shows what happens in a full one-hour class. It is free, and a parent stays with their child and joins in with every activity.

Do you run baby classes in Reading?

Yes. Shichida UK runs parent-and-child baby classes in Reading from 6 months, plus toddler, preschool and school-readiness classes up to 6 years, at 81 London Street, Reading RG1 4QA.

Where are the classes?

81 London Street, Reading RG1 4QA. Sessions run Friday and Saturday, 10am–3pm.

Is my child too young or too old?

Sessions run from 6 months to 6 years, and the activities change with each developmental stage. Send us their date of birth and we’ll place them thoughtfully.

Do I stay with my child?

Yes. Every class is parent-and-child, so you stay in the room and take part in each activity alongside your child.

Will my child sit still?

They don’t have to. Activities are short, playful and child-led. Restless is normal.

What if the first class is wobbly?

It very often is, and it tells you almost nothing. Where we can, we suggest judging after a second visit.

What does it cost after the free taster?

Your first full class is £40, and if you then enrol that £40 comes off your fees. Enrolment is a one-off £100, which includes your Starter Pack, and classes are £40 each, paid in advance for the term — typically 10 to 12 classes, depending on school holidays.

How many children are in a class?

Six. Popular times fill quickly and we do keep waiting lists, so it’s always worth asking.

What do I need to bring?

Comfortable clothes for both of you, socks, a drink for your child and a snack for afterwards. Everything else is provided.

Do I have to decide on the day?

No. Your instructor will talk you through what they observed, with no obligation to enrol.
